Eyumojock Population urged to participate in Local Governance

The Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) for the South-West has urged the population of the Eyumojock municipality to participate in local governance. She made the call during a Town-hall meeting organized by the institution at the Eyumojock Council Hall on Wednesday 9th October 2024. Speaking during the meeting organized on the themeOffice of the Public Independent Conciliator (OPIC): Complimenting Effective Council Services Delivery with Users’ Rights and Obligation for a Harmonious and sustainable community within the Eyumojock Municipality’’, the PIC called on the population as citizens and users of council services to respect their obligations towards the council.

The participants representing various community stakeholders drawn from the 65 villages of the subdivision were also educated on the missions of OPIC, the obligations of the council towards the population as well as on their rights and obligations as users of council services. In this line, they were told to pay their taxes, participate in elections, reports issues that pose a threat to social cohesion, comply with municipal regulations and make responsible use of public utilities.

After haven been drilled on these topics, some participants also asked questions about major issues concerning the running of the municipality. These questions ranged from the recruitment of teachers in primary schools, the provision of minimum packages and the misconduct of strangers in the subdivision. These questions were answered by Public Independent Conciliator and other resources persons to the satisfaction of the participants. At the end of the town-hall meeting, the participants took the engagement to also sensitized their peers about the existence of OPIC, its missions and complaint procedure.
